McLaren MP4/13 Mercedes F1 West winner Monaco GP World Champion 1998

Special model with driver figure. Hakkinen with raised arms. Steering wheel out of the car. Comes with a premium acrylic display cover. The 1998 Formula 1 World Championship was a duel between Mika Hakkinen for McLaren and Michael Schumacher in his Ferrari. In his eighth Formula 1 season, the Finn finally wanted to reach for the stars, while Michael Schumacher tried hard to bring the long-awaited title to Maranello for Scuderia Ferrari. Hakkinen had the better start to the season. He was already 12 points ahead of the German before the Monaco Grand Prix, and the street circuit in the principality was indeed to bring something of a preliminary decision. Hakkinen started from pole position. Schumacher had a moment of shock even before the start when he stalled his engine on the way to fourth position on the grid and had to be pushed. With temperatures reaching 25 degrees in Monaco, McLaren opted for hard Bridgestone tyres, while Ferrari went on the attack and fitted soft Goodyear tyres. While Mika Hakkinen got off to a dream start, Schumacher tried everything to get ahead, but was unable to get past Alexander Wurz in the Benetton until lap 38. When he finally tried to force his way past, he damaged his rear suspension and came away empty-handed. The start-to-finish victory in Monaco certainly took some of the pressure off the Finn in this tough duel. With a total of eight victories, the McLaren star won his first world championship title in 1998, which he successfully defended the following year.
