Ferrari 330 P4 Ferrari s.p.a. 2° Daytona 24H 1967

Ford’s one-two-three finish at the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours had deeply wounded Enzo Ferrari’s Italian pride. For many years, the Italians had dominated the endurance classic, only having to bow to the superiority of the armada of Ford Mk IIs fielded in 1966. The fact that all three of the new beautiful Ferrari 330 P3s had retired was regarded as a disaster in Maranello. Enzo Ferrari therefore demanded revenge for this humiliation as early as the first World Championship round of the 1967 season. In early February 1967, the rivals clashed once more at the Daytona 24 Hours: six 7-litre V8 Ford Mk IIs against three works Ferraris with their 4-litre V12 engines. Rarely has there been a more impressive campaign of revenge in motorsport, as Ferrari inflicted a crushing defeat on the giant Ford on its home ground. Trailing by 73 laps, the best-placed Ford Mk II finished a distant seventh. The Ferrari 330 P3/4 Spyder, driven by Lorenzo Bandini and Chris Amon, won the race, three laps ahead of the #24, the 330 P4 with Mike Parkes and Ludovico Scarfiotti at the wheel. Finishing third, the 412P entered by American N.A.R.T. team, with Pedro Rodriguez and Jean Guichet completed the Italian one-two-three victory. The humiliation of Le Mans 1966 had not been forgotten, but Enzo Ferrari had taken a fitting revenge.
